I thought as a tribute to Valentine’s Day week I would write about the heart today. I read some fascinating facts about the heart on Monday that I want to share with you because they are way cool!
If you are anything like me you wonder about what we call “the heart” and how our emotional heart is distinguished from our physical heart. What is what? How are they connected?
What I have been learning is so fascinating as I consider the incredible handiwork that our bodies are, and just how knit together our bodies, minds and emotions are, even though at our core we are unlimited spirits.
This is from the Institute of HeartMath:
“Research at the Institute of HeartMath (IHM) has found that the heart literally can make sparks fly between people. When two people are in resonance, there is a powerful transfer of energy produced by the heart. In fact, the heart generates the strongest electromagnetic field in the body, about 100 times stronger in amplitude than the magnetic field generated by the brain. Maybe this is why our heart speaks louder than our thoughts at times.
Think of the heart as a radio station, broadcasting a pattern of information on a radio wave through its electromagnetic field. That pattern changes based on what we are feeling. The pattern that’s broadcasted through the heart’s electromagnetic field can be detected (measured) in another person’s brainwaves, when two people are touching or in close proximity. In other words, we are always transferring nonverbal emotional information to each other. This research gives scientific meaning to sayings like, “You could feel the electricity between them,” or “It felt like a current running through me,” or “You could cut the tension in that room with a knife,” or “I could just feel his vibes.”
According to IHM Research Director Rollin McCraty, Ph.D., “A handshake, a hug, a pat on the back to a teammate – these interactions help us communicate and perhaps say more than what meets the eye.” So we need to ask ourselves, “What are we broadcasting?”
To cultivate love, it’s important to take pause and consider what emotions we are broadcasting to other people and into our environment. Or as we often say at HeartMath, “What are you feeding the field right now or today?”
I love this! Amazing uh? Have you ever had the feeling that your heart was going to beat right out of your chest? Like when you are about to speak to a group or when you know you are being summoned for something? I have always been amazed at how strong that physical feeling is? It’s very strong, and I can so feel the strength of that electromagnetic field.
How about we do an experiment this week?
I am going to consider what I am broadcasting when I am with others. I am going to be conscious of the power of love and be intentional to “give” love energy to those I am with and even with those I am not with, but who come to my mind.
I am going to sit at traffic lights and direct my love broadcast to the person in the car next to me and just see if I notice anything. I am going to sit with my kids and focus my heart on blessing them immensely. I love experiments. 🙂
When I feel a frustration arise, I am going to deliberately choose to tap into the power of a loving thought and allow that to shift my field.
When I feel down about something in particular I am going to focus on broadcasting compassion to myself or another and see what shifts.
Will you join me this week? Perhaps it will become more than an experiment…perhaps it will become a way of life.
Sending you love!
